plotwell is a browser-based AI screenplay editor and production platform built for indie filmmakers and small crews. It takes a film from the first page of the script all the way to the call sheet, without moving between four different tools.
Write and get notes on the page
Industry-standard screenplay formatting is handled for you. Script Doctor reads your draft and marks the exact words it has something to say about, directly on the page, with the note one click away. The AI agent knows your characters, locations and chosen visual style, so its feedback is about your film rather than films in general.
Build the world once
Characters, locations, documents and beats are written once and reused by every scene, storyboard frame and call sheet that follows. Rename a character in the script and the breakdown, storyboard and call sheet follow automatically.
From script to shots to shoot days
Scenes become storyboard frames generated from the script itself, keeping the same character and location consistent across frames. Assign shoot dates and filming locations and the stripboard, shooting schedule, budget and call sheets build themselves from the same source.
Bring what you already have
Import Final Draft (.fdx) and Fountain files directly, or drop in a PDF or Word document, which is read in your browser without uploading it anywhere. Exports are standard files you own: PDF with a cover page, Fountain and Final Draft.
Series and episodes
Seasons and episodes are first-class projects, each with their own script, storyboard, breakdown and budget, while the shared world is written once and used by every episode. Vertical and web series work the same way.
Pricing and access
The free plan includes one project, one collaborator and every feature in the product, with no credit card and no time limit. Extra projects or collaborators are $3 per month each, added only when needed. Nothing to install: plotwell runs in the browser and saves as you write.
