What is Live Subtitles?
Live Subtitles is a real-time captioning and translation tool that works on top of any application on your device. It captures the audio your system is playing — or the sound around you through a microphone — and displays live captions with an AI translation underneath, in up to 50 languages.
Because it operates at the system level, it is not limited to a browser or a single platform. It works with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Skype, Slack, Discord, Telegram, WhatsApp, Viber, WeChat, YouTube, Netflix, Twitch, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, games and anything else that produces sound on Windows, macOS, iOS or Android.
Key features
- Dual subtitles — the original line and the translation stay on screen together, so you can verify what was actually said.
- System audio or microphone — caption what your device plays without a mic, or switch the source to the microphone to caption a lecture, talk or in-person conversation.
- Real-time translation — follow meetings, streams and videos in 50 languages with under a second of delay.
- Works with all apps — no per-app setup, no browser extension, and nothing joins your call as a participant.
- Live Voice — hear the translation spoken aloud while the original audio keeps playing underneath (available on Windows for supported languages).
- Customizable appearance — adjust font size, color, subtitle position, background transparency and which languages are shown.
How it works
- Pick the spoken language and the language you want to read. You can swap them mid-session without stopping.
- Captions appear while there is speech and pause after a few seconds of silence, so quiet stretches do not consume your minutes.
- For calls you use regularly, the app learns the pattern and can start the session by itself.
Privacy and requirements
Speech recognition and translation run on the provider's cloud servers, so an internet connection is required. Audio is streamed only while a session is running and is not recorded. Captions are drawn on your screen only — nobody else in the call sees them.
Pricing and availability
Live Subtitles is free to try with no credit card required. After that you can top up minutes or take a subscription inside the app. It is available on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android, with a TV version in development.
