First Person Viewpoint

Free, open-source desktop app for local AI interactive fiction where your choices, characters, and world state persist on your machine.

Introduction

Step inside a story that remembers you

First Person Viewpoint (FPV) is a free, open-source desktop app for macOS and Windows that turns interactive fiction into a living world powered by local AI. You act, speak, or change the scene in free text — no dialogue wheels, no menus of approved answers. A local narrator writes what happens next, and the world remembers what you changed.

A world that moves when you do

FPV separates the player, the narrator, and the world state. Story State, Codex, and memory carry characters, places, goals, and consequences between turns and between sessions. Give a character a silver key at scene seven, and three scenes later she is still holding it — the story never has to ask whether you remember.

Three ways to touch the world
  • Do — act as your character.
  • Say — speak directly, in your own voice.
  • Story — change the scene itself.
Keep the moment, then fork it

Checkpoints save a turning point. Forks let you return to it and walk a different line without losing the story you already made. Undo and new paths keep every route yours.

Local by default

Your words, the narrator, and the project live on your computer. Local narration and story storage are designed to run on your machine once the required model and runtime are available. Cloud narrators are optional, use your own provider key, and are enabled per story — the story still lives locally. Scene illustrations, covers, and Visualize runs come from a local image pipeline, so prompts and pictures never leave your machine.

No meter, no locked drawer

FPV has no subscription or credit system, and no account is required for local play. Export the whole project as a .fpv-project file whenever you want to move it, back it up, or inspect it. Machine-specific settings, provider keys, and models stay separate from the project.

Before you enter
  • Internet — initial setup, model downloads, updates, and optional cloud providers require connectivity; local narration and storage are designed to run offline afterward.
  • Privacy — in a Local only story, FPV processes and stores the story locally. If you explicitly choose Cloud allowed and configure your own key, the required context is sent to that provider.
  • Cloud models — optional, BYOK, and only when you allow cloud narration for that story.
  • Portability.fpv-project import and export are supported.

FPV is free, open source under AGPL-3.0, and built for macOS and Windows. Your machine, your model, your files, your story.
